The Dergaon Town Committee was established in the year 1960 consisting of 4(four) nos ward. The then the Dergaon Town was under the Golaghat Sub-Division of Sivsagar District. First Board Meeting: The 1st Board meeting of DTC was held on 07-03-1960 at Dergaon Town Club Bhavan.
On 05-02-2004 the Dergaon Town Committee was upgraded to Dergaon Municipal Board Vide Govt notification No UDD(M)298/2003/10 dated 28-01-2003. The Dergaon Municipal Board consist of 10 nos ward. The first Chairman of the Dergaon Municipal Board was Sri. Ramavater Jallan.
